Playground Planning, Design & Installation

Playground Planning, Design & Installation

Designing and developing your ideal playground is simple with the right support. Our goal is to provide you with the information, expertise, and tools necessary to make your project run smoothly. Following these eight guidelines will help ensure your satisfaction every step of the way.

1. Define your objectives. What are your goals for the play area? What other community or environmental concerns do you wish to address?  How much can you afford to spend?

Consider other costs associated with a completed playground project including site preparation, safety surfacing, installation, etc.

A typical cost break-out is:
1. Equipment 60 %
2. Installation 20%
3. Excavation and Drainage 8%
4. Engineered Wood Fiber Surfacing 7%
5. Freight 5%

Is additional fundraising an option for your program?  What is the timeframe for your project? Is there a deadline for the completed project?

2. Assess your needs. This step takes into account specifics such as: overall budget, number and age of the children utilizing the space, specific equipment and dates, as well as what approvals are required and plans for any existing equipment.

3. Analyze your site. Site conditions influence playground design. Site analysis by our consultants can help optimize your playground usage while keeping costs down. Some factors that influence site conditions include: topography, soil conditions, drainage, current vegetation, location of utilities, and accessibility.

4. Select your equipment. When selecting equipment it is important to consider factors such as: safety, the number and quality of play activities, overall aesthetics, and accessibility, as well as issues that impact long-term satisfaction, such as equipment durability, manufacturer’s warranty, and service after installation. Superior Play prides itself on excellent customer service and considers our customers “Customers for Life.”

5. Choose your surface. Surface materials vary in cost, maintenance needs and ease of installation. Surface materials include loose-fill material, resilient tiles, and poured-in place rubber surfaces. Our consultants can help you select the surface material that best meets your needs.

6. Prepare your plan. Your Superior Play Recreation Consultant will provide you with scale drawings utilizing the latest CAD software. Cost and design specifications for your site will be reviewed as well.
